The Orchestra

I Virtuosi dell'opera di Roma

The Orchestra I Virtuosi dell’opera di Roma was created in 1998 and it is now recognized as the first example of an entirely private concert organization funded completely with non-public funds.

The founding members’ goal was to create a musical ensemble for performing lyrical opera, with particular attention to the great Italian lyrical tradition. This led them to select orchestra members only from among the most distinguished performers of this art form at the most prestigious Italian conservatories.

From its very beginnings under the leadership of world-renowned conductor Adriano Melchiorre, the Orchestra has made a name for itself in concerts both in Italy and throughout Europe.

The unique experience of an orchestra concert in Rome

Music moves the soul and touches the spirit. Much like an entrancing magic in which our hearts and thoughts are attracted to the notes, music is truly magnetic. A wonderful way to experience this magic and take in the music is with an orchestra concert. In effect, the sounds “materialise” and the notes resonate within us.

The orchestra “I Virtuosi dell’opera di Roma” ensures the audience a journey into the opera, thanks to the professionalism of its members. An orchestra concert in Rome is a truly “totalising” experience that satisfies the audience’s desire for art.

The Conductor: Adriano Melchiorre

The orchestra is led by the expert hands of Maestro Adriano Melchiorre, who studied piano, clarinet, composition, and conducting in Rome at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory. He continued his studies with the conductors Aprea, Bodmer and Bernstein.

Adriano Melchiorre has conducted many orchestras in Italy and throughout the world, including the Santa Cecilia Academy Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra, and the RAI Symphony Orchestra of Rome and Naples. Melchiorre’s leadership makes the orchestra concert in Rome a unique experience, as he has composed transcriptions of works specifically for the I Virtuosi dell’opera di Rome orchestra.
